Our Story

My name is Mariam, when I was little, my family moved back to our ancestral home in the occupied West Bank. Many of my earliest memories, even memories of family, food, and home, are set against the harsh backdrop of occupation — the anxiety, the fear, the daily humiliation and dispossessions and always the promise looming violence.

When our family eventually returned to the Midwest, I was appalled by the indifference and ignorance of Americans. And the fictions about my homeland and people, pushed relentlessly by the media and elected officials, infuriated me.

That’s how the indigenous narrative began and why it’s here. It’s a space to speak truth; to tell authentic stories about our families and our way of life; to advocate for freedom, dignity and an end to the tyranny of the occupation.
